Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher has made a rare and touching gesture by signing one of Sir Jackie Stewart’s old racing helmets, which is being auctioned for a dementia charity.
The seven-time world champion, who has not been seen in public for nearly 12 years following a life-altering skiing accident that left him with severe brain injuries, added his initials to the helmet with the help of his wife, Corinna.
According to Bild, Corinna Schumacher agreed to the request because it was important to her that Michael be included among the other living F1 world champions who had already signed the helmet.
Sir Jackie Stewart, now 85, told the Daily Mail that Corinna had to guide Schumacher’s hand to write a simple “MS”, a minimal version of his once-recognizable signature.
